Marketing plans are just a small part of your overall business plan, but can easily be one of the most important. Marketing plans help to build your business within the market, promoting products and services to your audience, generating sales, and running internal operations to keep your business moving forward to achieve your goals. With three easy steps in developing your marketing plan, you can drive your business to success and achieve your goals to gain revenue and customers.
Put together at least three goals for your business that are SMART – specific, measurable, achievable, relevant and time bound. These factors will help you identify and understand what you want to achieve, why you want to achieve it, and how to get it done, so that your entire team is on the same page in terms of what they are working towards. your goals are the foundation of everything you do within your business, and your marketing goals not only support marketing operations, but operations throughout your business, including sales, operations, and more.
From your goals, you’ll be able to create an action plan of how to achieve your goals. I love to use a tree structure with a goal at the top, breaking down strategies from the goals with overarching projects, and tactics under strategies with actionable tasks to achieve each strategy and goal. Understand what you need to do in a macro and micro level plan will help you to understand a clear picture of how to reach your goals.
Create a broad timeline for each action item, such as months or quarters that you’d like them to be achieved, and ensure that it is assigned to a role, group or person to build accountability. If you marketing plan has a clear outline, it will help reduct stress on you for micromanaging, as well as creating a plan for your employees ot push forward so you can focus your attention elsewhere in the business as it’s needed.
