My Pregnancy Experience: Our Gender Reveal

Boy oh boy, has this day been one I have been DYING to share for so long! Ever since we found out that we were expecting, my husband and I have anxiously been awaiting the day to find out if we were going to have a little baby boy or a sweet baby girl joining our family filled with love and laughter. Whether it is a strong, independent soul like her mama or a rough and tumble fighting boy like his daddy, this child is loved and will continue to be so loved by everyone around us.

This Christmas, the time finally came for us to reveal to our family what their first grandchild will be and I am so excited to share exactly how they responded and the sex! Watch it all now:

How We Found Out

On December 8th, my husband and I had 2D, 3D and 4D ultrasounds scheduled at Peek-A-Belly in Lockport, IL and I couldn’t say I was more anxious to learn what we were having. My husband was dead set on a boy, but in my heart, I felt like I knew it was a girl. The experience was great and to see our little one’s features was beyond amazing! My husband swore before the technician could determine the sex that he saw little boy parts and it was a boy, but to our absolute shock IT’S A GIRL!

I think it took some time for my husband and I to really take that in what just happened because we had zero plans for a girl. As soon as we got into the car, Jeff immediately knew what he wanted to name her, even though we hardly even talked about girl names, and that ended up being the name we picked! I think it took a few days for it to really sink in, because as I did some Christmas shopping, I loved starting to swing by the baby sections to start looking around, but always found myself drawn to the little suspenders and bowties, but I’m slowly growing on the idea of a girl because I’ve learned that it’s a whole lot more fun shopping for a little lady!

How We Told My Family

My parents were the first to find out the sex because we had Christmas day with them a week early due to some travel plans, so we put some pink balloons in a box and wrapped it like a present. My parents were dying for a little granddaughter, but I think they thought they’d get a boy. They even went as far as to stalk my blog and social media to see if I posted any hints before telling them the sex! The overthinking apple didn’t fall too far from the tree.

Let’s just say they were over the moon to find out it was a girl and my mom starting planning how she wanted to tell her extended family at our annual Christmas Eve party that we were not going to be at this year. She opted to tie the surprise into a fun ornament exchange game we play every year and the news was beyond exciting because this will be the fifth great grandchild in the family, but the first girl!

How We Told Jeff’s Family

This year was the year we traveled to Virginia to have Christmas with my in-laws, and the anticipation was killing everyone to know if it would be a boy, like generations of Christian children have been, or finally have a girl that my in-laws never had (my husband is the oldest of four boys!). On Christmas Day, we gifted both of my husband’s parents with bibs for a girl and they loved it! My mother-in-law had a feeling it was a girl since we told her we were pregnant and her wish came true!

I think we can say that everyone is a little over-the-top excited for this new adventure in our life, and we can already tell she’s going to be a rough-and-tumble, strong, independent young lady making big moves in this world with an endless flow of dreams and possibilities!
